Grandma's Recipes One By One!

Gwen’s Good Hotdish

on May 7, 2014

It looks like Grandma and her sisters were exchanging recipes again here.

I’m glad they did – this one is really tasty.

We can never have too many hotdishes or too much comfort food!

The beauty of a hot dish is that all you do is mix it all together and throw it in the oven.

Gwen's Good Hot Dish

So easy and so comforting.

Here is the recipe as I made it:

Gwen’s Good Hotdish

2 cups chicken or turkey, cooked and cut into cubes

1 small can of sliced mushrooms, plus juice

1 can water chestnuts, drained

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 Tablespoon onion, minced

1 16 ounce package of frozen mixed vegetables, uncooked

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cans cream of mushroom soup

Mix together and sprinkle with a small package of slivered almonds.

Bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hours covered, uncover and bake 1/2 hour more.

Before and after baking you can see how the almonds toast a bit and the hotdish gets hot and bubbly.

Hotdishes are a great way to use up leftovers.

You can interchange the meat and vegetables to use whatever you have on hand.

This is a warm, comforting, and very tasty dish that your family will love.

I know mine does.
